Red Shift, 2009
Mixed media assemblage. Doll head, copper wire, found objects, paint. 7.5 x 5.5 x 3.5 in.

She is confined in a box of domestic detritus in orderly rows, with screws, nails, and safety pin implying unbreakable bonds. Her marriage is upside down; there is a baby in the corner reaching out, but isolated in some kind of container. The coiled wire below her implies tension in her neck, or strangulation. There is a religious icon, and an empty bottle. Her face looks anxious. There is a nut above her head - is she going nuts? Blood-red paint is drowning everything, almost spilling over the sides. She has a thousand thoughts shooting from her head. Her eyes are open. She is surfacing.
